Distiller's Bothy

Our "Off-Grid" pet friendly Distiller's Bothy is immersed in the total tranquility of the Cairngorms Scots Pine forest, here you will find yourself waking up in complete silence except for the happy chirping of our neighbouring birds. The Distiller's Bothy is perfect for those wishing to watch Scotland's wildlife come and go, or for those who like to venture out into the wild, there are multiple unforgettable woodland walks that start on your Cairngorm Bothy doorstep.

Far from the basic facilities provided by traditional bothies, each self-contained unit caters for all of your needs during your Highland retreat. Whether it’s the comfort of your own hot shower when returning from your exciting day enjoying the outdoors, the convenience of your cooking facilities your warm home-cooked meal or the cosiness of your wood burning stove in the evenings, a Cairngorm Bothy will provide for your every need.

Your Bothy will comfortably sleep ideally a family of 4 with one UK standard sized double bed and a trundle single bed (2 mattresses 76 cm by 155cm) – typically children of 10 and under.

A woodburning range is integrated into the Bothies, because electrical power is at a premium we use local logs to provide all the comforts of modern life. The woodburner doubles as a heating system heating a hot water circuit that heats the towel rail radiator, as well as obviously heating the surrounding space. Alongside the fire closet is the oven and the top surface is hot plate. The back boiler provides the hot water for the showers and taps. The kettle whistles like olden time when brought to the boil by being deployed on the hot plate.

The bathroom includes a walk-in shower, WC, sink and heated towel rail.

Step outside and cook your dinner in our purpose-built disposal bbq stand……or enjoy a cosy night in by the wood-burning stove with firewood provided from our own forests.

Naming our Bothies

We are proud of our heritage, of our rich history and of those who have gone before us and shaped the land and our local communities. In naming our bothies we have chosen to name each one after something or someone pertinent to this unique area. Each bothy is simply and tastefully furnished, but each is individual, reflecting the name bestowed upon it.

We are of course located in the very heart of whisky country where clean, clear springs run off the mountains and help produce the perfect dram. Our closest distillery, with its very Royal connections, is located next to Balmoral Castle. We don’t however restrict ourselves to whisky in this area and are delighted that an artisan gin distillery, using local botanicals, is producing a very pleasant gin, Esker, on another nearby local estate. Well worth a try.
